Candid, natural, reportage, photojournalism and ……………………………..

I am often told by wedding couples that they like natural photos, they prefer candid shots- in the sense that the person does not know they are being photographed. Photojournalism or reportage is, for me,  a different matter.

A photojournalist at a wedding takes a point of view in the story. It is not the wedding day seen though the eyes of the bride or groom, it is told from the point of view of the photographer and unless he ( or she) is God and can be everywhere and know everything, this is a selection of photographs that represent the photographer and what he values.

It is important that you let your photographer know what you like so that they can build this into the photographs they take. If you choose a photographer who ‘does it their way’ ( the Frank Sinatra school of photography?) you need to like their work.

At db photos, I have a strong visual style but use the wishes of the wedding couple as a guide to how to tell their story and photograph them.

Here are some photos from  various weddings, I would call them candid portraits;
